‘DidaBoy —Ma Wai-him: A Journey of Music and Joy’ Suona and Houguan Recital

Music, its beauty lies in its root ‘muse’; in the quest of music, boundless amusement blossoms.  Ma Wai-him, the principal suona player of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and a current artist supported by the China National Arts Fund, will convey his personal journey in this concert, from Cantonese music which pervaded his childhood, to the rich essences of xiqu from across the Mainland; through rigorous institutional music training, to finally encountering jazz that creates innovative, cross-genre sounds.  He reinterprets Chinese music through modern creative approaches, inviting you to discover ‘music’ anew.  The soaring, powerful suona blends with the husky, sensational houguan, accompanied by fusion jazz band Jazzclectic and piano, showcasing Hong Kong’s unique East-meets-West cultural charm and a different mode of Chinese culture!

Band: Jazzclectic

With the kind permission of Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra for Ma Wai-him to participate in this production
