In the 1950s and 1960s, local film companies produced Chinese opera films based on different regional forms and traditions, bringing the spirit and artistry of the stage to the screen. This programme features screen adaptations of renowned opera works which blend the lyrical beauty of operatic music with elegant costume design, whilst highlighting the enduring charm and diversity of traditional Chinese opera. Among them is Bride Hunter (1961), directed by Hu Siao-fung and Lin Huan (aka Jin Yong), starring Hsia Moon, with vocals performed by celebrated Yue Opera artists.
