Chinese legendary masterpiece Journey to the West combines fantasy adventure, intelligent philosophy and charismatic character design to achieve a unique narrative that has inspired count less f ilm creations over the years. This screening programme will showcase three pairs of cinematic works from different eras and genres that draw inspiration from Journey to the West, demonstrating the diverse interpretations and artistic renderings of filmmakers across generations of this classic masterpiece. Notably, one pair, A Chinese Odyssey Part One—Pandora’s Box (1995) and A Chinese Odyssey Part Two—Cinderella (1995) will have its premiere in a newly 4K digitally restored version at the East Kowloon Cultural Centre, offering audiences an enhanced audio-visual experience.
