To illustrate the powerful and majestic atmosphere of the prosperous Tang dynasty, the orchestra opens with Prince of Qin Smashing the Battle-line and closes with Tang Resonating to leave a lingering reverberation in the audience’s mind. The orchestra features the erhu, one of the most well-known and captivating Chinese bowed string instruments originating from this era that is still widely performed today. Zhang Haiyue, first-prize winner of the 14ᵗʰ China Golden Bell Award Erhu Competition, will present several pieces including her prize-winning piece Erhu Rhapsody No. 6, the third movement of Symphonic Suite: Qiao’s Grand Courtyard: Love, and the Second Erhu Concerto Journey to the West.
